Start with the number you need
CCL is worth five points on the skilled migration points test. That is the entire reason most candidates sit it, and it is worth confirming before you enrol that five points actually changes your position — for some applicants it does not, and the effort is better spent elsewhere. For most South Australian nomination pathways, where cut-offs sit close together, it does.How the exam runs
Two dialogues, roughly 300 words each, delivered in segments of up to 35 words. Each segment plays once, and you interpret it into the other language. Pass mark is 63 out of 90, with a floor of 29 per dialogue.Fluency is not the skill being tested
This is the part that surprises people. You are not being marked on how well you speak either language — you are being marked on whether meaning survived the transfer. Omitted details, small distortions, and shifts in register all cost marks even when both languages sound perfect.
