Speaking a language at home is not preparation

This is the specific trap in Western Sydney. Candidates who use their community language daily, with family and at work, arrive assuming the exam will be straightforward. It frequently is not, and the reason is that CCL does not measure fluency. It measures whether meaning transferred accurately, in both directions, under time pressure, with no notes.

How it is scored

Two dialogues of roughly 300 words each, in segments of up to 35 words, played once. You need 63 out of 90 overall and at least 29 in each dialogue. Marks come off for omission, for distortion of meaning, and for using the wrong register.

Register is the one daily speakers miss

If you mostly use your language conversationally, formal register is the habit least likely to be there when you need it. A dialogue where a solicitor explains a tenancy dispute or a doctor explains a procedure has to come back in language of the same weight. Rendering it as everyday speech is accurate in content and still loses marks.

Vocabulary from Australian systems

Marked, graded, repeated

Each session is graded dialogue practice with examiner-style marking, so improvement is measured rather than assumed. Between classes you work through graded dialogues, and audio dialogue packs are available separately in Hindi, Punjabi and Nepali.
