ACT nomination and the five points
Canberra candidates are more likely than most to be pursuing ACT nomination, where the points margin is often narrow and every component is scrutinised. The five points from CCL apply to your total under the skilled migration points test. If your matrix score sits just under a recent invitation cut-off, this is one of the few components you can add in weeks rather than years.What the exam actually is
Two dialogues of about 300 words, split into segments of up to 35 words. Each segment plays once — no replay, no dictionary, no notes you can rely on. You interpret consecutively between English and your community language. Pass is 63 out of 90 with a minimum of 29 per dialogue.The failure modes
Omission: a date, an amount or a conditional clause dropped from a long segment. Distortion: the meaning bends while the gist survives. Register drift: careful professional phrasing rendered casually. Every one of these is invisible while you are doing it. Self-study at home rarely surfaces them — marked practice is the only reliable way to find which one is yours.Topic vocabulary beats general vocabulary
