What makes Urdu different to prepare for
The Hindi-Urdu overlap is the first trap. Spoken registers are close enough that candidates borrow Hindi practice material, then produce Sanskritised vocabulary in the exam where the Urdu equivalent, drawing on Persian and Arabic roots, is expected.
The second is formal written register bleeding into speech. Candidates schooled in literary Urdu reach for constructions no speaker would use in a GP's waiting room, which reads as distortion rather than accuracy.
The third is simply volume: with fewer published Urdu dialogues in circulation, most candidates arrive under-practised on timing and retention rather than on language.
