Covers the widest span at Score Smart — NAATI Nepali CCL, IELTS and PTE — which makes him the person to ask which test you should actually sit.

Choosing the right test before you start studying

Nim teaches all three of the exams Score Smart's students use for visa and PR points, so a common first conversation is not about study plans at all. It is about whether the test someone has booked is the right one for how they perform.

Candidates who freeze in front of a human examiner often do better on PTE, where the scoring is algorithmic. Candidates who write well but struggle with rigid timing and machine-scored speaking often do better on IELTS. Sitting the wrong test is one of the more expensive mistakes he sees, and it is entirely avoidable with a diagnostic first.

NAATI CCL in Nepali

The CCL exam is two dialogues of roughly 300 words, delivered in segments of up to 35 words, heard once, with no notes to lean on and no replay. You need 63 out of 90 overall and at least 29 in each dialogue — so a strong first dialogue cannot rescue a weak second one.

The vocabulary that fails Nepali speakers is rarely exotic. It is everyday Australian administrative language: excess, bulk billing, tenancy agreement, deposit. Nim builds subject glossaries as students go — medical, legal, banking — because the gap is topic-shaped rather than general.

IELTS band descriptors, plainly

IELTS Writing is marked on four equally weighted criteria, and most students stuck at 6.5 are strong on two and weak on two without knowing which. Task Achievement is the one lost most often and least noticed — answering a slightly different question, or covering only one half of a two-part prompt.

Because migration pathways apply the band requirement per module rather than to the overall score, his planning starts from a student's weakest module. An overall 7.5 with a 6.5 in Writing does not meet a Band 7 requirement.
